about

Sauro Todaro (Rome, 1965) is an Italian artist. He began his artistic journey as a self-taught artist, alongside his studies at the seminars of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome (1982). In 2000, he exhibited in Shibuya, Tokyo, at the studio of journalist and photographer Etsuko Hashimoto. He has continued to exhibit in Japan, where in 2009 he took part in an exhibition dedicated to tropical typhoons. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.

He has extensively studied the movements of Action Painting and graffiti art. More than the repeated tag, or the multicoloured and intertwined compositions of writers, he is interested in the cry, the insignificant mark, and the chromatic action of the unknown writer.

His new works are driven by a strong need to explore colour and by a study of light and its tonal variations. Space is conceived as a unit defined through subtle reductions in tone. The painting, the mark, and the thought are reduced to a minimum in line, gesture, and form, while colour becomes the absolute protagonist.

He lives and works between Italy and Japan.
